Image Tables - ePub

Hi Folks,

 

I have one other question related to ePub's. Has anyone else got any ideas of how best to convert tables to Images when publishing to ePub?

 

We find that HTML rendered tables are useless when rendering to ePub as many readers just crunch the column size really narrow. To date we have found the best thing for end users is to have table images which would allow them to scroll sideways.

 

What do others do in this scenario and if you have used image tables, how have you rendered these on-the-fly?

Question about EPS conversion during ePUB Publishing

Hi Everyone,

 

We have traditionally published our content to PDF and so far we use EPS as the standard image format as this renders the best result. We did toy with SVG at one point, but Arbortext just rastorized it (at least at the time it did when we used V6.0).

 

We are embarking on producing ePUB's, but the resulting PNG files are published at 96 DPI which is too low.

 

Looking at the Arbortext manuals, there is a setting:

 

set defaultprintdpi

 

set defaultprintdpi= value

This command specifies the resolution value in images resulting from PTC Arbortext Editor converting SVG and PVZ images for print and PDF output. value is a positive integer specifying the resolution in dpi (dots per inch). If defaultprintdpi is not set, PTC Arbortext Editor assumes a value of 300.

 

However by the manual's own admission this only applies to SVG and PVZ images and only when publishing to PDF.

 

Is there another way to configure how Arbortext converts EPS to PNG when publishing to ePUB? Or are we stuck coming up with another image tool that must run during the publishing flow?

This relates to the Product Idea Better conversion of EPS files in Web output.

General ePub format question for PTC staffers (or others in the know)

Hi Folks,

 

Currently Arbortext support ePub2 as a format.

 

Epub3 has been around for a while - and so far I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe that Arbortext will support anything newer in the near future.

 

So the question is, will Arbortext support ePub3 - or is ePub as an output format just being sustained at its current level with no plans for further development?

Which one is better? IsoDraw and Creo Illustrate

Hi,

 

I am working as an technical illustrator. I installed some softwares as following.

  • Autodesk Inventor
  • PTC Creo Parametric
  • PTC IsoDraw CADprocess
  • CorelDraw
  • Windchill
  • Arbotext Editor

 

I have two working process

  • Open 3D model in Inventor  > Create 2D drawing as CAD file > Open the drawing in CorelDraw > Modify the drawing and export it to SVG
  • Open 3D model in IsoDraw > Create 2D drawing as CGM > Open CGM in CorelDraw > Modify the drawing and export it to SVG

 

I upload SVG to Windchill one by one.I think it will be easy to use if there is a link between Isodraw and Windchill.

There are two choices for me. IsoDraw and Creo Illustrate. I want to know which one is better.

Elements out of Context

I'm working on a file that uses the MIL-STD-3001 XML standard. When I open the file in Arbortext, it turns context rules off, telling me that an element is out of context.  Looking at the DTDs, that element is a valid child element of the parent that contains it.  Deactivating and reactivating the style sheet sometimes allows me to turn context rules back on, but the problem comes back when I open the file. Has anyone else had this experience?  Any troubleshooting tips?

CGM File increases in size

I am creating a CGM file. In the past when I have created CGM files they always seem to be smaller than the IDR and definitely smaller than an exported TIF file. I am creating a file now by taking a TIF photograph and then putting a call out on the photograph to a particular part. That is the only thing I am doing to the file. When I save as an IDR the file size is 702 KB when I export the file out as a CGM it grows to 1,757KB. When I export the file out as TIF it is 678 KB. Anyone have an idea what might be causing this or something to look for?

new wisdom 2016 project.

 

  

  1. WebTop    -  6.7 SP2   to  6.8  version
  2. Content Server     -  6.7 SP1   to  D7.2 SP2 version
  3. DFS  - 6.7 SP1   to  D7.2 SP2 version
  4. Windows OS      -  2008  to  2012

 

Can you please check Arbortext Editor and Arbortext Engine  current version (6.0M060 ) or new version (6.1 or if any) Compatibility  with  WebTop and content server  above mention
new version and provide the details on this.

I don't know 3b2 have this dialog or not

but I really need the function like that

 

something like indesign, when the document have overflow text

it will warn me to solve.

 

but 3b2 let you pass, no any warning

its so dangerous for my work

 

so anyone can give me some suggestion or solve methods?

Link between callouts and part n.

Hi everybody.

 


I'm wondering if someone knows how to automatically link the callouts with the parts number of the items.

 

I can now make it one by one (through OBJECT INFO -> HYPERTEXT -> OBJECT -> Relative callout number) and it's a waste of time .

 

I need this link to use it when exporting the datas (xml) to excel.

 

Any tips will be appreciated !

Content Management (Windchill Updates Reflecting in XML Content )

Greetings all,

 

My organization wants to implement better content management of technical publications. We are trying to implement the Abrotext Publishing Engine, and we’d like to if “possible” have changes to parts listed made in the PTC Windchill Product to reflect in technical manuals developed in Arbortext XML editor. By doing these we hope to keep technical manuals as current as possible. Is anyone currently doing this? and does anyone know how we can have changes made in Windchill reflect in the editor in an automated manner ?

Alignment of numbers in ToC

Hi,

 

I am a nowise user just exploring Arbortext. I have a problem in aligning the page numbers getting generated in table of contents. Now the format is right alignment. I want to change it to left 9 1 of 13 should get aligned with 9).

Schema validation issue when inserting a file entity from oracle repository

Bringing this to the experts hope someone can help...

 

We have a library of Warning XML files stored in an Oracle repository that we link to other XML files by creating file entities. The file entity is created by using the URL link to the warning file. (http://<server Name>:0000/cs/idcplg?IdcService=GET_FILE&dDocName=OSCLSLIMSAP21O1035007&RevisionSelectionMethod=LatestReleased).

 

This works great for doctypes that are validated by a DTD. However we have several doctypes that have Schemas. When trying to insert the file entity into an XML file that is validated by a schema I'm getting a context rules error. I believe this to be because it is looking for the namespace on the file it is inserting (xmlns attribute).

 

Since we are working with several different doctypes with different namespaces adding the xmlns attribute to the warning files is not possible.

 

Any guidance on how to address this issue would be great appreciated.

Insert Graphics

Dear Users,

 

I am trying to insert graphics (customised image located in C:/XYZ/ABC.jpg) from the "Insert Graphics" in Styler -> Generated Content menu.

 

But it throws a error "A61191" and does not show my customised image from custom directory. But works well for Arbortext OOTB graphic folder.

 

Pls advice how to overcome this.

How to duplicate an ACM server ?

Hi,

 

I would like to duplicate an ACM server (for testing) on a new environnement.

From my understanding, on the source side, I need to :

- export the source data base (with ORACLE pump)

- export source LDAP from Windchill Directory Server

- backup the Windchill vaults

Is there anything else to export or back up from source ?

 

Then, on the new environnement, I hate to install ACM and then :

- import the data base

- import the LDAP

- copy the Windchill vaults

 

Is this procedure OK ? Where do I have to pay particular attention ?

What file can I modify to add options in the menu that appears when right click with the mouse

Hello!

 

I've been trying to find the file where I can add a new option in the menu that appears when the user right click in a Document opened in Arbortext Editor. By the way, what's the name of that menu or dialog? Does anybody knows?

 

In advance I appreciate so much all your help and shared knowledge!
