Image to show up on cover when profile used, not showing.

I am wanting to add an image to my cover using styler. I would like it only to show when I choose the profile OM and set my language to ru. I have created a UFE for it and created a condition for it

XPATH expression (//servicemanualmap/@xml:lang="ru") is true and

XPATH expression (//servicemanualmap/@otherprops="Op_Manual")

When I publish I do not get my desired result.

See attached image in styler. I must be missing something.

Counting Graphics and Sheets of a Figure in Styler

This is such an obvious topic I was surprised by the lack of information in the Styler manual, help files and on-line. It seems like a really obvious topic to me, but I could only find a single reference to counting the sheets and/or graphics of a figure in the Arbortext help file documentation. "Counting Sheets of a Figure in Styler" which is basically a FOSI topic, and "Coding FOSI support for sheet count".

Is there an equivalent topic showing how counting sheets and/or graphics can be done within Styler itself?

Ideally, the styling should be able to recognize when there are multiple graphics/sheets in a figure and output the Figure number, title, followed by (Sheet 1 of n), thus if there are multiple sheets/graphics in a figure it should output something like "Figure 1. Name of Figure (Sheet 1 of 5)".

Segment Violation Errors

Hi Folks,

We have been using Arbortext as a publishing tool for almost a year now. So far we have not had too many issues we haven't been able to overcome. Typically our documents are between 50 - 200 rendered pages and contain images, lists, cross references, and often many tables.

From time to time, I get complaints from users indicating that after rendering documents multiple times, they get segment violations and Arbortext closes. The work around is to restart and keep going.

It seems that the more complex the tables get (cell spanning) the more likely we have issues. For fun, I took a document and copied the content many times over to see what would happen when we have a larger document - the result is Arbortext will just crash about 330 pages or so into rendering. From a system perspective, I can see memory usage climb (x32 version here) to just over 1.1 GB before the crash. The error I commonly see is editor.exe: segment violation (signal 11).

My question is this, how do others handle these issues and are there other settings under the covers that will allow Arbortext more memory or to process larger files? I am a bit nervous that someday soon we may run into a 600 page document that cannot be handled.

I looked into some of the stylesheet profiling tools - but again with the error message I am seeing - it doesn't tell me what is really happeneing. For reference we are using the APP engine and have a custom schema/stylesheet.

Any advise is welcome.

Thanks,

Rob.

Arbortext Editor 6.1 error while printing

Getting an error in AT Editor 6.1 when trying to print a simple enough XML document.

The error window states "editor.exe: segment violation (signal 11)".

When I pull up the editor_err.log file in my Users\TEMP folder, it reads this:

PTC Arbortext Editor (Build R61M010-339) terminated unexpectedly at Thu Sep 25 14:18:18 2014:

editor.exe: segment violation (signal 11)

Current ACL statement at "C:\Program Files\PTC\Editor61\packages\main\_winev.acl":71:

   71 [1]   return

ACL function traceback at time of error:

#1   print::modified_print() at "C:\Program Files\PTC\Editor61\packages\main\_winev.acl":71

Local variables of active function:

$p1=0

$p2=0

$o1=(-1,0,0)

$o2=(-1,0,0)

I have no ideas what could be going on. The XML document I'm trying to print is extremely simple:

<!DOCTYPE OUR CUSTOM DOCYTPE HERE>

<searchList>

<row>

<searchTerm></searchTerm>

<context>printOnly</context>

<description></description>

<highlightStyle><style type="highlight"/></highlightStyle>

</row>

</searchList>

Has anyone seen this error before?

How can I restrict the image size in the table and the page?

Dear all,

I met a problem, when I using the styleshhet(.style file) which is customized for publish a document, the image is over the table and the page, but when I change to use the default stylesheet (for example: ditabase.style), it's ok.

But I didn't know how to set the restrictions, could you tell me or give any suggestion?

Your assistance will be highly appreciated in this regard.

Thanking you!

Hi,

In Arbortext Editor 5.2 version, the ACL function com_attach("Sepe.EditSupport") returns a non-zero handle, but in 6.0 M100 version, always returns zero. How can I solve this problem in version 6.0?

Text in CGM not searchable in created PDF

We recently went to new machines with Editor 6.1 installed and when we createa PDF from Print, Print Composer, or Publish to PDF, the text in our graphics is no longer searchable in the PDF. We haven't, as far as I know, ever in the last 10 years needed to make any setting changes other than in the paths section. I have tried changing the cgmprofile in the advanced settings to no avail based on other forum posts but doesn't help.

Any ideas?

ACL - Find All Instances of a Tag in an XML file

$

I know, I know.... noob question - but I'm not an ACL person, and I'm about crazed out- on trying to find a simple way to lift/extract all of the 'figure' tag contents in an XML file (Mil-Std  Tech Manual DTD - Need to create a list of figs by id with titles and graphic boardnos).

Was trying the REGEX route, problematic (too many 'workarounds' required - remove all line returns), then looked to XML parsers, (too hard, too long to learn it). It's a long walk down the google rabbit hole to not find a really easy solution to this...

Then I thought... "HEY" (I actually said this out loud in the office, disturbed some folks)... With all of you Arbortext Wizards (capital W) out there, doing magical ACL stuff; someone's got to have an ACL command in their pocket to simply 'find' all instances of an XML tag - so that I can 'mark' them, and copy/paste them out somehow, no?

Lastly (related Q), is there a 'cheatsheet' out there in Arbortext land of commonly used/abused ACL commands/command strings?  Can someone drop a breadcrumb to a lowly tech writer that knows not the ways of the ACL lore?

Thanks in advance for all reads/replies/laughter/quiet mirthful musings.

Dear all,

One of my customer wishes in a first step store his InDesign file in Windchill.

During this first step, we wil put in place the organization, lifecycle and workflow.

In a second step, he wants to use DITA (with Arbortext Editor and Publishing Engine)  to manage the content of his documentation.

Who already have an experience with the couple Windchill / InDesign?

Thanks in advance for you feedback.

Best regards

I'm trying to code a table with a continued title to float across multiple pages. I have all this working correctly however the customer wants the word continued to appear on all subsequent pages except the FIRST page. Right now I have it to say Continued on all pages except the LAST one. Any help would be appreciated. See example below:

Example of what I currently have:

Booktitle and frontmatter appear twice in output PDF file

$

I have been confused for a few days. If I publish a bookmap into PDF with my self-defined style-sheet, the book-title and the front-matter will appear twice! They will appear at the start of the book (It is correct), and appear again at end of book (It is not what I expect).

However, if I publish the bookmap file with default style-sheet, the result is correct—they just appear at the start. I try to adjust the style sheet many times. It seems I didn’t know where to solve it.

I don’t know how to control it – how to remove them from the end of the books. Can somebody help to answer it?

using xincludes

Does anyone know how to collapse all file references quickly when using a document containing a bunch of xincludes to reference other docs, but allow the file name to display?

Normally I use entities, but AE 6.0M060 crashes when the parent document is open and a child is edited. Later iterations of 6.0 have the same problem. Work around is using xincludes but all children are expanded when the parent is opened, making a really long document to scroll through.
